Gathering

Inspired by the work of wildlife photographer Thomas Marent, I was drawn to the colors and the patterns of these sociable moths. These sweet, sunny beauties are (with a bit of artistic license) alytarchia leonina, a type of African tiger moth.

LIMITED EDITION of 10.

'Gathering' was hand-carved on traditional gray linoleum, and the prints were pulled by hand in 4 separate color layers using the reduction method of printmaking. In contrast to work that relies on multiple blocks to print each separate color, this process uses a single block of linoleum. The block (either wood or linoleum) is carved away as each color is printed; the block is thereby destroyed (i.e., reduced) in the process and cannot be reused. All prints made in this way are, therefore, limited editions.

‘Gathering’ was printed using Cranfield traditional oil based relief inks on Japanese washi paper.

Remember, this is NOT a digital reproduction! This is a handmade print, which means it is unique. There will be slight variations between prints in a series, and between the image shown on my website and the print that arrives in your mailbox. This is, of course, part of the charm of original handmade artwork. However, in the event that you are not perfectly happy with your original artwork, I will accept returns. Just contact me within 14 days of delivery and ship the item back within 30 days of delivery.
