This 13-layer linocut was created over many months in my studio and involved a lot of decision making/problem solving along the way. You may be tempted to attribute this to poor planning, but don't! This was the organic, creative process (painful and exhilarating by turns) in all its glory. This print was the most challenging so far of all my work - and is the one I am most proud of.
The original drawing was done in 2022 but the project stalled on the drawing board until I was really ready to dig in. The flowers themselves were grown by my neighbor, friend, and #1 Zinnia tamer, Karen. The vase is Villeroy & Boch and was a gift from my mother many years ago.
'Zinnias' is an original, limited edition linocut block print, carved on traditional gray linoleum. The prints were pulled by hand in 13 separate layers using Cranfield traditional oil-based relief inks on Legion Somerset 250gsm printmaking paper.
LIMITED EDITION of 14
This artwork was created using the reduction method of printmaking. In contrast to work that relies on multiple blocks to print each separate color, this process uses a single block of linoleum. The block is carved away as each color is printed; it is thereby destroyed (i.e., reduced) in the process and cannot be reused. All prints made in this way are, therefore, limited editions.
Artwork is sold unframed and unmounted so that you can choose how to display the work. Each print is titled, signed, and (in the case of limited editions) numbered in pencil below the image.
Prints are packed securely for shipment, protected by rigid cardboard and enclosed in a protective sleeve. Larger prints may be rolled and shipped in a sturdy cardboard mailing tube. Each order will be processed and shipped within 3-5 days of receipt. Items are shipped USPS First Class. Shipping is FREE to anywhere in the U.S.
Please remember: this is not a digital reproduction. This is a handmade print, which means it is delightfully unique! There will be slight variations between prints in a series, and between the image shown on my website and the print that arrives in your mailbox. This is, of course, part of the charm of original handmade artwork. However, in the event that you are not perfectly happy with this work, I will accept returns. Just contact me within 14 days of delivery and ship the item back within 30 days of delivery.
