Over the years, I've taken a lot of walks around the rural Auburn area where I live. And, being an observant sort of person, I have amassed a nice collection of feathers gleaned from fields and roadsides. From dramatically patterned owl feathers to the tiny specimens from dainty songbirds, I pick them all up, take them home, and stick them in the ceramic pot suited to their size. These five lovelies eventually found their way into my sketchbook, became individual linocut prints, and have now been gathered together in one larger print. They are, from left to right, domestic hen (don’t tell her she doesn’t qualify as a bird of Auburn!), great horned owl, wild turkey, spotted owl, and hawk.
'Five Feathers' is an original linocut block print, carved on traditional gray linoleum and printed by hand using Caligo Safewash relief inks on BFK Rives 115gsm printmaking paper.
